About us

At Weights & Biases our mission is to build the best tools for AI developers. Our co-founders built Figure Eight, and our tools are being used by cutting-edge machine learning teams including OpenAI, NVIDIA, and Cohere. We’re looking for passionate, driven people who love to learn and collaborate in an inclusive work environment.

In May 2025, Weights & Biases was acquired by CoreWeave but we’re still focused on building the best tools for the era of generative AI. You can see our current open roles here.

Our start

Weights & Biases was born behind a karate studio in San Francisco with a simple but ambitious goal: to build the best tools for machine learning. And though the field has evolved dramatically since the company shipped its first product, that single animating focus has never changed.

When Weights & Biases was founded by Lukas Biewald, Chris Van Pelt, and Shawn Lewis in 2017, tools for machine learning practitioners were fundamentally inadequate. Tracking models was mostly a manual exercise; reproducing them was practically impossible. But deep learning was still advancing rapidly. Image recognition was reliable. Voice recognition was on every phone. Lukas, Chris, and Shawn shared the conviction that better tools could help their peers solve bigger problems.

What began with an experiment tracking solution developed to help build models at OpenAI grew into an end-to-end MLOps platform used by thousands of businesses and millions of practitioners. But nearly a decade later, the mission remains the same.

Our values

Honesty

To make smart decisions, we need to be honest with each other and with ourselves. Honesty allows us to surface problems so we can tackle them together as a team, instead of avoiding them.

Curiosity

Machine learning is advancing fast. Best practices can easily become obsolete overnight. The key to thriving (not just surviving) in this industry is to never stop learning.

Gumption

In a world of intense competition, having the confidence to move forward despite uncertainty is essential. Taking risks can be uncomfortable but staying complacent is rarely the better option.

Grit

As much as talent counts, effort counts twice. Having that ability to roll up your sleeves converts setbacks into stepping stones. In the long run, having grit is a core part of success.
